- Eddie grew up in Vermont, USA, heavily into
tennis and endurance sports. After graduating with a degree in
Psychology, he set off for Florida with a bicycle and a Nikon FE
camera on a "mission of self-discovery". Completely self taught, he
has become a specialist in the art of photographing children.

- "I've always gravitated toward photographing
children... maybe because they don't attempt to orchestrate
themselves to the degree that older people do. I feel much better
photographing a subject who is not judging him or herself, or me for
that matter. I find self judgment to be challenging in a portrait
subject, but also quite distracting. But really, I think I
photograph kids because in many ways I'm really still a child myself
underneath... maybe we all are."
Following a simple-is-best approach, he prefers to let a
child's expression and body language be the main ingredients in his
images. Along the same lines, he uses the black and white medium in
an attempt to get down to the essentials of a child's character.
Whether he is successful at this or not is, naturally, never
guaranteed, especially considering the special demands of child
portraiture... and it is this that keeps him ever anticipating the
next photo session. For various tangible and
intangible reasons, Eddie has recently switched to digital capture,
and is curious and excited to see if he can retain the same
photographic personality evident in his film work. His current
verdict on the issue: "It's going to take some serious practice...
lots of shooting to get to the comfort level I felt with film."

Florida. When he's not photographing or working on his websites, he
likes observing people (not always photographing them), and going
for long runs.

- Editorial Comment: Eddie
Bonfigli was chosen as the inaugural Featured Photographer for
IROCP.com for many reasons... First and foremost would be his
undeniable talent. The true spirit of the children is evident
in the images he creates. He is able to envision the outcome
before he even depresses the shutter button on his camera. We
believe Eddie Bonfigli completely represents children's photography
in the best light.
